THE USE OF A NEURAL NETWORK TECHNIQUE FOR THE PREDICTION OF SLUDGE VOLUME INDEX IN MUNICIPAL WASTEWATER TREATMENT PLANT

Titre: THE USE OF A NEURAL NETWORK TECHNIQUE FOR THE PREDICTION OF SLUDGE VOLUME INDEX IN MUNICIPAL WASTEWATER TREATMENT PLANT
Auteur(s): DJEDDOU M; ACHOUR B
Résumé: Modeling Sludge volume index of activated sludge process in municipal WWTP is a difficult task to accomplish due to the high nonlinearity of the plant and the non-uniformity and variability of influent quantity, quality parameters, and operation condition.
ANNs were developed for the prediction of the Sludge Volume Index using influent quality parameters and operating parameters of Batna Wastewater Treatment Plant from 2011 to 2014. The best model given by the neural network for the SVI prediction composed of one input layer with fifteen input variables, one hidden layer with thirteen nodes and one output layer with one output variable with R = 0.8784 and RMSE = 0.443. The results demonstrate the ability of the appropriate Neural Network models for the prediction of SVI. This provides a very useful tool that can be used by WWTP operators in their daily management to increase treatment process performances and WWTP reliability.

CONTRIBUTION A L’ETUDE DU TRANSPORT SOLIDE EN ALGERIE DU NORD

Titre: CONTRIBUTION A L’ETUDE DU TRANSPORT SOLIDE EN ALGERIE DU NORD
Auteur(s): MEDDI M
Résumé: Nowadays, erosion phenomenon is becoming increasingly important in the Algerian catchment basins. Hydric erosion is the most extensive form in the Algerian basins. It depends on the soils resistance and climate aggressivity. Erosion intensity occurs mainly when there are floods, where a significant amount of sediments is being generated by the basins. Erosion, sediment transport and sedimentation are the cause of the degradation of agricultural soils, siltation of dams and damaged substructures the costs are considerable. In Algeria, for instance, the hydro technical-structures development studies come up against the problem of the lack of data relevant to sediment transport in order to assess its importance. This leads the engineer to use the rule-of-thumb techniques currently in existence for assessing the solid quantities transported annually by water courses during sizing designs. For this, we considered necessary to improve our previous relation along with new data in order to calculate the sediment transport, on annual scale, based on three parameters available at at all catchment basins controlled by hydrometric stations, i.e., run-off, pluviometry and surface area. To give more meaning to the model, we used data from 67 Algerian stations and dams. After using the data of 53 measuring sites for calibrating the model, the validation was performed by taking 14 stations into account. The model reliability was done using Nash criterion. For linearity purposes of the relation, the variables were subject to logarithmic transformation. All Correlation coefficients are significant at the 95% threshold along with a determination coefficient equal to 0,77%. The Nash criterion for model calibration and validation is 77% and 88% respectively.

ASSESSMENT OF GROUNDWATER VULNERABILITY USING INDEX BASED METHOD. CASE OF SEBAOU RIVER AQUIFER (NORTHERN ALGERIA)

Titre: ASSESSMENT OF GROUNDWATER VULNERABILITY USING INDEX BASED METHOD. CASE OF SEBAOU RIVER AQUIFER (NORTHERN ALGERIA)

Résumé: The intrinsic vulnerability map of Sebaou groundwater system was drawn as
part of a research work developed to characterize and evaluate the pollution
risks for the coastal aquifers of northern Algeria. Established using "DRASTIC"
model in a Geographical Information System (GIS) environment, this map (in
1/50,000th) shows that the study area is characterized by three vulnerability
zones: low (5.4%), moderate (91.9%) and high (2.7%).
The localization, with the same map, of existing and foreseeable potential
pollution sources, allows water resource managers and land managers to
develop the best choices on regard to the sustainable management of resources
and environment.

EFFECT OF HOUSE STORAGE ON WATER’S QUALITY IN RURAL AREAS OF TANGIER-TETUAN REGION (MOROCCO)

Titre: EFFECT OF HOUSE STORAGE ON WATER’S QUALITY IN RURAL AREAS OF TANGIER-TETUAN REGION (MOROCCO)
Auteur(s): DOUHRI H; RAISSOUNI I; TAZI S; DOUHRI B
Résumé: Rural residents of Tangier-Tetuan Region (Northern of Morocco) are still pending on groundwater supplies for drinking water without any treatment. The storage of this water in household containers for a long time as well as the handling might lead to a quality deteriorated and become unsuitable for human consumption.
In order to evaluate the effect of long storage on the chemical and bacteriological quality, households stored water of twenty springs were selected for the investigations on chemical and bacteriological parameters.
The physicochemical properties showed that the majority of the stored water samples are considered acceptable, except some samples that don’t meet the standards recommended. Our study revealed also a positive correlation between storage and concentrations of microbial agents.
Monitoring the chemical and bacteriological quality of stored drinking water is essential to prevent population health risks.
