Abstract

Foreign trade can be considered as one of the most important economic sectors as well as an indicator of economic success for any given country. This research aims to establish the contribution of the foreign trade process in increasing economic growth rates, within the Gulf Cooperation Council, this by tackling the problematic of foreign trade role in generating a real economic growth in the Gulf Cooperation Council. We have concluded that the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) has effectively contributed in the process of its trade operations with the exterior world, considering that it is one of the most important oil and gas producer and exporter entity, and by examining the relationship that exists between the foreign and intraregional trade, and the element of economic expansion, we observed a rather positive role (played by both the foreign and the intraregional trade business) on increasing the Gross Domestic Product (GDP) within the countries belonging to the GCC; thus increasing economic growth rates. These rates are however strongly affected by oil and natural gas prices fluctuations, them being the major component and the main supplier of the GCC economics. That makes The Gulf Cooperation Council heavily vulnerable towards global crisis on top of it being in a weak spot in the intraregional trading process.
