Abstract: In a carboxymethyl cellulose (CMC) solid medium, several mesophilic ellulolytic strains were isolated from a camel excrement sample (Camelus dromedarius) from the Ehadjeb area, Biskra. In a first selection step based on the formation of clear zones around the colonies, 10 strains were isolated on the CMC-based solid medium. In a second step, based on the measurement of CMCase activity in the supernatants of liquid cultures, one of the strains showed the highest cellulase activity (0.37475 IU / ml) at 40 ° C and pH 7. The strain belongs to the genus Micrococcus and the species Micrococcus luteus. Key words: excrement, Camelus dromedarius, mesophilic bacterium, CMCase, Micrococcus luteus.
