dc.description.abstractThe concept of permanent agricultural and rural development took its shape during the 1980s as a result of the growing awareness that agricultural policies and programmes must encloses a set of economic, environmental and social issues, in addition to the traditional fields of agricultural productivity and food security. The importance of the concept of permanent agricultural development was stressed during the Land Congress that was held in the city of Rio in 1992.
