dc.description.abstractThe Study Title : The personality traits and psycho-social needs of academically gifted and academically excellent students . The study aimed to explore and reveal the personality traits and psycho-social needs of academically gifted and excellent male and female secondary school students. It also aimed to determine differences in personality traits as well as differences in psycho-social needs between academically gifted and academically excellent students. This study belongs to the class of exploratory studies and the researcher used the descriptive methodology relying on the social survey style and the purposeful sample method . The Study Community and Sample : The study community consisted of 198 male and female students from first, second and third year secondary school registered during the 2017-2018 academic year at “ Mohaned Mokhbi Mathematics School” of El Qobba – Algiers; as to the study sample it consisted of 110 students who were subjected to statistical analysis . The Study Tools : The study tools comprised : - the general evaluation criterion of final year examinations as well as evaluations of quarterly examinations ( that is the school records ). - the personality traits indicators form ( the teachers observations ). - the peer nomination model for giftedness specifications. - the personality traits test for academically gifted and excellent secondary school students designed by the researcher . – the psycho-social needs test for academically gifted and excellent secondary school students designed by the researcher . The Study Results : The study reached the following results : 1.The personality traits of academically gifted and excellent secondary school students were manifested in a slightly different order of salience as follows : - for the academically gifted students sample : 1st social traits, 2nd mental traits, 3rd emotional traits, 4th academic traits, 5th physical (bodily) traits, 6th skill traits . - for the academically excellent students sample : 1st social traits, 2nd emotional traits, 3rd mental traits, 4th academic traits, 5th physical (bodily) traits, 6th skill traits . 2.The psycho-social needs of academically gifted and excellent secondary school students were manifested in the same order of salience as follows: 1st the need for self (and others) esteem, 2nd the need for emotional intelligence, 3rd the need for social support, 4th the need for spiritual intelligence, 5th the quest for perfection need, 6th the sense of humor need. 3.There are no statistically significant differences between academically gifted and academically excellent secondary school students in the following main personality traits : physical (bodily) traits, mental traits, emotional traits, social traits, skill traits and academic traits . 4. There are no statistically significant differences between academically gifted and academically excellent secondary school students in the following prominent psycho-social needs : the need for self and others esteem, the need for emotional intelligence, the need for spiritual intelligence, the sense of humor need, the quest for perfection need, the need for social care and support.en_US
