Abstract

This study aims to identify environmental awareness and its impact on achieving sustainable urban development. It is a field study and then conducted on a sample of the residents of Al-Qadisiyah district in the Wilayat of Awlad Jalal, by raising the following question: What is the level of commitment of the residents of Awlad Jalal city to sustainable environmental practice? Within this main question, a set of sub-questions are included, as follows: 1- What methods do the residents of Awlad Jalal adopt in maintaining the cleanliness of their surroundings? 2- How do the residents of Awlad Jalal Berrechid consume water? 3- To what extent do the residents of Awlad Jalal city contribute to preserving green spaces? We used the descriptive approach, accompanied by a set of tools to help collect field data, most notably the questionnaire, which was applied to the sample members that were chosen by chance, which numbered 60 individuals, in addition to the observation guide. In order to verify the extent to which quantitative data or evidence corresponds to the actual behavior of the population, the study concluded a number of results, which serve as an answer to the study's question : - The residents of the city of Awlad Jalal contribute to preserving the cleanliness of their surroundings, through their respect for the waste dumping dates, which corresponds to the times of passage of the cleaning yard, as well as their respect for the places where the waste is placed, in addition to their contribution in trying to sort it according to type, and their participation in neighborhood cleaning campaigns, and their adoption of the method Awareness and guidance to reduce the phenomenon of environmental pollution. - Residents of the city of Awlad Jalal are keen to try to rationalize their consumption of water by providing them with a water tank in their homes, which is one of the means to help save water, as well as ensuring that they fix the faults related to water channels inside their homes as soon as they are discovered, in addition to using a bucket instead of a water hose during Their consumption of water, which is a means to help avoid wasting water, and their adoption of the method of awareness and guidance as a better way to spread awareness of the rationalization of water consumption. - Residents of the city of Awlad Jalal contribute to preserving green spaces through their initiative in afforestation campaigns within their neighborhood, in addition to their keenness to water green spaces and maintain them from damages that may be caused to them, as well as their reliance on awareness, advice and guidance as a way of raising awareness not to cause harm trees and thus develop collective responsibility in protecting the environment.
