This research proposes to study the thermal and luminous effect of solar shading devices in hot and dry climate in order to optimize their performances. It contributes to this field of research through investigations on the impact of those devices on energy use, thermal comfort, and daylighting in buildings. The experimental part of our research focus on the impact of design parameters on solar protection performance. These parameters are the disposition and the inclination of the slats, as well as the spacing between them. Geometrical configurations, which will serve as support for the numerical simulation, have been obtained through the combination of these parameters. Three simulation software were used: TRNSYS 17, RADIANCE 1.2 and DAYSIM 3.1. This parametric study’s object was to evaluate the performance of geometrical configurations according to different criteria. These criteria are the air temperature (in winter and summer), daylighting (illuminance, sDA, FLJ, UFLJ) and energy consumption (for heating and air-conditioning). In this work, we also propose a designing solar protection tool that may be used during the early stages of building design. For its development, we based on the results of the parametric study and the multi-criteria analysis, which allows for the classification of the geometric configurations.en_US
