dc.description.abstract | This research focuses on the built heritage of the 19th and early 20th centuries in the historic center of Setif, reflecting the city's historical, cultural, and architectural evolution during this period. The study highlights the richness and diversity of architectural styles, characterized by colonial influences, while identifying the challenges related to their conservation within a rapidly changing urban context. Through a multidisciplinary approach combining documentary analysis, urban planning studies, field surveys, and investigations involving the local population and institutional stakeholders, the research reveals a critical state of vulnerability for this heritage. This situation is exacerbated by the absence of a dedicated Land Use Plan (POS) for the historic center and a lack of tailored conservation and valorization policies. The study also sheds light on ambivalent perceptions within the local community, often influenced by the connection of this heritage to the colonial period. However, there is a growing recognition of the historical and architectural value of this heritage among residents and some institutional actors. The thesis concludes that an in-depth understanding of this heritage is essential to raise awareness among stakeholders about its significance and to guide public policies towards better conservation and valorization. It offers concrete recommendations to integrate this heritage into the sustainable urban development of Setif, thereby contributing to its patrimonial recognition and inclusion in a long-term preservation strategy. | en_US |
