Protection of pumping stations against the transient water hammer is of most importance. It is usually done by the use of an air vessel. In this work we present the results of numerical comparative study for throttle devices used in practice. In the calculation of the transient response of the system, special attention is given to the shape of the wave fronts and the influence on air volumes. It has been shown that in hydrodynamic point view, the best device is for single way dissipation. The results are preceded by a brief statement of the equations of motion and the numerical method of resolution to finally present the case study analyzed.en_US
