dc.description.abstractThe current focus of the competency based approach is pronunciation learning since it plays a major role in communication. Pronunciation is an integral part of foreign language learning since it directly affects learners' communicative competence as well as performance. This paper presents the results of a study investigating whether the use of audio visual aids enhances the learner’s pronunciation. To achieve this purpose, two groups of fourth year learners at middle school were chosen. Each group had 40 participants, one group was an experimental and the other was control. Both groups were taught the same lessons about the single vowel sounds, with the exception is that the experimental group taught through the use of audio visual aids. There were three main phases of the experimental study namely pre-test, treatment period and post-test . The oral pre- and post-test results were compared after calculating the mean and the t test of both groups. The scores of the experimental group showed significant improvement in their pronunciation when it is compared to the control group. Results indicate that the use of audio visual aids, even over a short period of time, produce better pronunciation improvement than using only aural feedback. iven_US
