This thesis presents a contribution to the optimization of reactive power flow considering new technology FACTS using several methods based meta-heuristics: Genetic algorithms GA optimization, particle swarm optimization (PSO) and many modified versions such as: PSO algorithm with interior coefficient (PSOIC), PSO with constriction factor PSOFC, the PSO algorithm with time varying acceleration PSO-TVAC and the Ant Colony Optimization technique. In this work, many objective functions are considered: total active power loss, voltage deviation, these two objective functions are treated individually and simultaneously using multi objective formulation. Two FACTS devices (STATCOM and TCSC) are installed at critical buses to reduce the total power losses and voltage deviation. To reinforce this present work, another objective is also treated to achieve the desired optimization by improving voltage stability through minimizing the voltage stability index known as (L_index). The proposed optimization methods are applied to many practical electrical network (IEEE 14-Bus; IEEE 30-Bus and IEEE 57-Bus), combative study between many standard optimization techniques shows clearly the robustness of the TVAC-PSO variant in term of solution quality and convergence characteristics.en_US
