The concept of passive architecture and its relationship with the control of energy consumption are characterized by a great complexity, they are considered as a field to be explored to ensure the realization of an energy efficient equipments and a sustainable architecture that is respectful of the environment, So what are the passive architectural strategies that help reduce energy consumption? What are the properties of the energy efficient buildings ? The present work is a fundamental research based on the study of statistics and content analysis of documents and scientific articles (quantitative and qualitative studies) and It aims to obtain effective and fundamental architectural solutions to the control of energy consumption in buildings relative to a hot and arid climate such as : (the orientation - the sun protection – the thermal inertia - the natural ventilation ... etc.) which ensure an inevitable comfort and a healthy environment as we have tried also to apply them in our study project "The Experimentarium" in Biskra "hot and arid context". Finally, we conclude that the use of passive strategies to optimize energy consumption and its non-exhaustion are an absolute necessity to avoid compromising the needs of the future generations of natural resources under the concept of architectural sustainability.
