Authors: BAR, Rahma
Issue Date: 2019
Abstract: Abstract It is claimed that teachers of English language fail sometimes in creating a good learning environment in their classes. Perhaps, this is due to lack of effective teaching strategies. Our current study attempted to investigate the role of debate in enhancing EFL learners‟ speaking skill at the section of English in the University of Biskra. Therefore, our research aimed to highlight the importance of using debate as a teaching strategy among EFL learners. In this respect, we hypothesised that the use of debate in EFL classroom will help learners to develop their speaking ability. Methodologically, a qualitative research approach was adopted in this study. Likewise, our investigation is a case study as a research strategy. In relevance to this approach, one main data collection method was used in order to investigate learners and teachers‟ perceptions towards the use of debate. After the interpretation of the collected data, the results revealed that the use of debate can help EFL learners to improve their speaking skill. Thus, it can be concluded through the investigation that the obtained results confirmed our hypotheses.
