Abstract The present study investigates the effectiveness of using thematic videos to improve students‘ vocabulary retention. The researcher hypothesized that if EFL teachers‘ use thematic videos in the classroom, students will retain more vocabulary. In order to confirm or dis confirm the hypothesis and obtain the needed data for the study, the qualitative approach is used to describe and interpretive the study. As data gathering instruments, the researcher selected questionnaires for nine (9) English teachers at TechnicomeDjamaâ High School and students of one class in this high school, and classroom observation for more accurate information. The findings were analysed and described, then the research questions were answered and the hypothesis was confirmed. These findings proved that thematic videos may help learners improve their vocabulary retention; this suggested teaching material may provide learners with the opportunity to overcome the lack of vocabulary problem.en_US
