Abstract: This research falls within the framework of the study of historical centers in desert re-gions, based on the problem of the scarcity of cartographic information and our lack of knowledge of the foundations and organizational rules at the level of its built framework, con-sidering its deteriorating state and threatening the demise of the local urban heritage . Where have we outlined the main aims seeking to identify the distinctive morphological characteristics of the ancient urban tissues in the low SAHARA capitals (Ouargla, the Big Touggourt and El Oued). By coming up with representative urban models that express the char-acteristics of the urban form, where they can be adopted by specialists in increasing the quality of the authentic built environment, current and future proposals. As for the level of special theoretical aims, it included crystallizing the theoretical framework related to each of the his-torical centers, the complexities of the urban fabric and the epistemological location of mor-phological studies, and regarding special procedural objectives, it aims to identify the effective mechanisms to provide the data sought from the data collection to the results through preparing a morphological protocol and issuing the initial atlas to indicate the characteristics of ancient urban tissues. In view of the specificity of the subject of the study related to the disclosure of infor-mation and data characteristic of the morphological peculiarities of urban tissues in historical centers, this research is oriented towards the overlap between detection methods (quantitative, qualitative and standard) for the distinctive characteristics according to the post-positivist model; Based on the descriptive and comparative approach . Accordingly, the morphological protocol specified for the framed context was prepared according to sequential methodological steps, which are mainly directed at collecting and ana-lyzing various data based on a controlled analytical network. The comparison between the dis-tinctive characteristics at the level of the study samples in the three capitals. In terms of the approved approaches, cross-fertilization was adopted between: Firstly, the typo-morphological approach, which is based mainly on the analytical descriptive approach by adopting a standard reading of the components of the studied urban fabric by focusing the study on the arrangement of the urban form elements (urban site, road system, quota and free space ) and the relationships between the elements of the urban form ((Urban site // road system), (Ur-ban site // free space), (road system // free space), (parcels // free space)). Secondly, the fractal approach, which is based mainly on the computational (standard, descriptive and quantitative) analysis of the morphology of urban tissues, through the study of three (03) basic levels, the comprehensive analytical level (Correlation analysis), the local analytical level (radial analysis) and the level Inter-analytical (The box-counting method) This study reached the production of the first morphological atlas containing the details of the morphological characteristics in the historical centers within the case of the study, which provides information on which specialists rely on various interventions at the level of ancient urban tissue compounds and as a control for the proposal of future designs in cities, besides providing a structured database that can be exploited In line with the specificity of programming languages, and programming environments should contribute to the development of future re-search .
