Abstract: Abstract This research aims to identify the architectural elements, which contribute to the aesthetics of colonial buildings and the different stylistic trends of the facades of public buildings dating to the colonial period. It focuses on a reading of the facades of public buildings as a major component of a building and as a heritage support. The selected area for this study was the cities of the South-east of Algeria, which offers a rich and varied corpus of buildings to study. Our methodological approach consists of an analysis of the constituent elements of the facade of the public buildings of southern Algeria and the relations between them. In order to contribute to the recognition of this unknown heritage and to determine the criteria that would help improve the aesthetics of today's architecture.
