Abstract: The Biginelli and Hantzsch reactions have undergone a great deal of development, as standard reactions of multicomponent reactions (MCR), in order to prepare products of various pharmacological interests. Orthosulfanilic acid (OSA) has been shown to be effective as a catalyst (20% mol) in the Biginelli reaction to prepare dihydropyrimidinones under solventfree conditions and in a short time. The same catalyst was of importance in the preparation of the dihydropyridines, Hantzsch products, at only 20% under solvent-free conditions, with good yields and in a short time, while comparing our results with the data in the literature. The Schiff bases carrying the Benzotriazole (Btz) unit were tested for their antioxidant power and the results obtained, by the DPPH and FRAP methods, were very satisfactory.
