The notion of autonomous development or self reliance appeared during the 70’s in the economic literature as a concept opposed to economic dependency. The autonomous development approach, then, presents, on one hand, a new framework based on developing internal resources in order to satisfy social needs and attempts, on the other hand, to restructure international relations on the ground that the latter insure some sort of political and economic independence. This paper, then, tries to respond to the question, whether the Algerian experience fulfills the requirement of an autonomous development.en_US
