Abstract: The objective of this study is to evaluate the beneficial effects of fluoxetine on disorders of lipid metabolism caused by obesity and on the parameters of oxidative stress at the cerebral level that could be involved in the onset of depressive behavior in patients with Wistar rats rendered obese by RC. After development of the obese phenotype, obese rats were treated with fluoxetine for 4 weeks. Behavioral tests such as the open field-test (OFT) and forced swimming (FST).After 24 hours of the last test, blood samples were taken for the determination of some blood parameters and oxidative stress in the prefrontal cortex and the hippocampus. Our results showed that treatment with fluoxetine improved the anxiety behavior. In obese rats during the OFT and reverse depressive behavior in the FST. On the other hand, fluoxetine has a hypoglycemic effect and improved lipid profile parameters and antioxidant status in brain structures involved in depressive physiopathology. Key words: Obesity, Depression, Fluoxetine, Lipid profile, Oxidative stress.
