Abstract

Applied linguistics was not born in the 20th century, which it deals with many language issues such as; psycholinguistics, sociolinguistics, translation, teaching languages (contrastive analysis & error analysis), common words and educational (functional) grammar, etc. (Al-Osaily, 2006; Abdoh, 1979; Areef & Naqshbandi, 1992). Al-Jahiz was the pioneer of those fields in linguistics. He discussed all the above topics in his valuable books in detail, such as; Al-Bayan Wa Al-Tabeen, Al-Haiwan, and Al-Rasa'il. The western linguists had been followed his way and approved what he had been said in those areas since 12 century ago. Also Al-Jahiz had not got any attention or series and original study from the Arab scholars to show his contributions and efforts in this field.
