Abstract: Shallow foundations ensure the stability of structures, especially in dynamic situations such as seismic loads. Their bearing capacity has been explored through various geotechnical methods. It's crucial to grasp the impact of combined loads, including eccentric and inclined ones, and seismic activity on this capacity. Digital tools have enhanced analysis, but research must continue to refine these methods. Interdisciplinary collaboration could lead to significant advancements in the design of superficial foundations. This thesis focuses on a detailed examination of the bearing capacity of strip footings. The first contribution investigates the complexity of the soil-footing interaction, especially when the footings are built on sand above a layer of clay. The OptumG2 code has been extensively used to examine the three-dimensional failure envelopes, providing a deeper understanding of the stresses and deformations for these constructions. Additionally, the second contribution delves into elastoplastic study, centered on the bearing capacity of strip footings under seismic conditions. This is vital for areas with high seismicity. Various seismic situations have been modeled, analyzing the influence of different seismic factors on the bearing capacity. This provides essential insights for designing foundations in seismic areas. Overall, this thesis aims to deepen the theoretical knowledge of challenges related to strip footings in different geotechnical contexts, while offering practical advice to geotechnical engineers.
